Bank presentation
The BANQUE COMMERCIALE DU BURUNDI, "BANCOBU" in acronyms was established, under the system of Burundian laws on 13 June 1960. Before that date, its banking activities had been carried out respectively by the Banque Belge du Congo and the Société Congolaise de Banque (SOCOBANQUE).
The BANCOBU was held by ING Belgique (former BANQUE BRUXELLES LAMBERT: BBL) up to 49% until 2004, date at which those shares were bought out by the Burundian shareholders of the bank.
Today the BANCOBU capital, held by 35 shareholders, is represented by 1,100,000 shares, that is :
- 32.43%by joint companies ;
- 23.53% by individual entities ;
- 21.06 % by private companies ;
- 19.95% by public companies;
- 3.03% by the State of Burundi.
